Artist-Adventurer SOSAA Grant Competition
Outdoors Unscripted hosts the opportunity for artist-adventurer teams to receive funds through the Showcasing Open Spaces through Accessible Adventure (SOSAA) grant competition. Inspired by Douglas County’s Open Space planning project, SOSAA calls for diverse artists and adventurers to apply for grant awards of $1,500–$2,000 to explore the “open lands” of Douglas County and then create a work of art about their adventure. Winners of the grant competition present their artworks to the public at Outdoors Unscripted Festival events.

The SOSAA grant competition was held for the first time in 2024, awarding $12,000 in total funds to seven artist-adventurer teams. In 2025, Outdoors Unscripted received $25,000 in grant funds from the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council to fund the program–$18,000 of which will go directly towards the grant awards. Nine winning applicants will use creative storytelling techniques to share their adventures in little-known parts of Douglas County.
